The Aspens Are Changing
Feels like the dog days of summer...I got sun-tanned while fishing, but on the way home from the store afterwards, I had to take the Roland Valley cutoff because 285 was at a dead stop because of a trash bag, liberal leaf peepers from Aurora and Lakewood- I haven't been through Rolanmd Valley in a few years, it's always a treat because I get to see the Roland Valley sign (not pictured) that I painted when doing community service a few years back- The court ordered for me to do 40 hours, but the nice lady in charge of me was so impressed with me and my work that she said "you're done" after only 5.. When you have to do community service, they always ask, "Do you wanna do it down here (in Jeffco) or up there?" Always say "up there"- This lady gave me the keys to her truck, and just sent me out to the two signs to be painted, and to the park to trim some bushes... If I were doing it in Jeffco, I'd probably be serving up food to lazy, filthy, degenerate, homeless people and transgenders for 5 days

Ah yes, the Liquidambar styraciflua, it is one of the most valuable forest trees in the southeastern United States. Did you know it is currently classified in the plant family Altingiaceae, but up until recently, it was considered a member of the Hamamelidaceae? They found Tertiary-aged fossils of it in Alaska, Greenland, and the mid-continental plateau of North America, much farther north than Liquidambar now grows.

Not to sound like a liberal tree hugger: I cut down trees, but only as a last resort- Pine Beetles, Anthracnose, Needle Cast, Root Rot, Canker, Fire Blight etc etc etckizma buudi wrote: ↑Thu Sep 25, 2025 5:52 pm I know they hurt your feet... I cut them down like weeds!
Killing a live healthy tree is bad karma and will come back to haunt you in your love life

Have to agree. Cut down the dead standing Aspen because they are already dried and ready for the fire pit .

lol that’s because you live where trees struggle to grow. They are literally weeds here. I’ve probably got 400 sweet gum trees in my yard. I nurture the white and red oaks and hickory trees but those sweet gums get the ax!!

Tayrall and I disagree, and I think I have 5000 trees on my property...kizma buudi wrote: ↑Fri Sep 26, 2025 11:02 am lol that’s because you live where trees struggle to grow. If anyone down there is reading this- STAY HOME- There's football on the TV!
Heading into Colorado’s mountains for fall colors? Plan for heavy traffic, long delays, CDOT says
Coloradans heading into the mountains to bask in the fall colors this weekend should plan for a very slow drive surrounded by thousands of their fellow leaf peepers.
