Wal-Mart Raises Pay For 500,000 Full & Part Time Workers

Post by Tarryall »

Supposed to be $10 by the end of 2016. Maybe wage stagnation will finally end? Seeing a lot more help wanted signs in the Denver area, Wal-Mart might be having to raise wages just to keep employees from jumping ship.

Or is this raise only a PR gesture?

Could be but they could also be seeing the positive results from Costco and Anthem who have both made efforts to treat employees better with the payoff being very low turnover and higher productivity.

Per Reuters, the pay raises are expected to cost one billion dollars. Great point about turnover costs, I hate the time and expense of replacing employees. We pretty much only fire people who don't show up or can't do the work.

One Billion? That amounts to about 1/2 of 1% of income for any ONE of the Walton family in a year... 'Scuse me if I don't feel their pain.
