I-70 WB closed at Lookout Mtn, Hwy 40 WB packed

Post by cabinish »

A child was killed in a crash on I-70 around 3:10pm. I-70 closed at Lookout Mountain, Hwy 40 WB is packed.
Avoid the area entirely.

The state patrol recommended the following detours:

US 40 (Colfax) from exits 262 and 259
US 6 Clear Creek Canyon (WB drivers can jump off on Colo 58, which leads right to the mouth of the canyon
Colo 74 – Morrison to Evergreen

Tragic. This isn't the first car to travel from EB to WB and cause a head on crash.
Barriers are overdue.

For all the folks who sat on the highway for hours (I was one) it might be helpful if they would
help if they'd block traffic at Morrison rather than allowing the canyon to fill with traffic that
has no where to go. It sets up a dangerous situation also.

Took me over 1.5 hours to get home on Friday.
I got off and Morrison and came up the canyon.

All it takes is one moron to screw everything up- and we are adding more and more traffic every year.

I've been driving I-70 for 36 years and I have never run off the road. This guy was distracted or on drugs or drunk.
