Fennell began her art career studying ceramic sculpture as an undergraduate where she first explored the use of bright glazes on three dimensional sculpture.

After graduation, a job with Columbia pictures as a scenic artist for the motion picture “ A League of Their Own”, inspired Carol to study painting. She went on to earn her MFA in painting at Northern Illinois University, where she studied under abstract artists and created large sculpted paintings. She currently uses clay and paint to achieve dimensional wall pieces with a painted surface. Inspired by the dramatic landscape in Colorado, she interprets line sketches from nature into paintings of vibrant color. Mixing texture, material, surface and color, she wants the viewer to see what she sees- a whimsical innocence of nature.

Her work has been displayed in numerous juried exhibitions and invitational shows throughout the Country. Some of her public collections include the following:
