About the Artist....
"My paintings are impressions of nature, not simply a replication of what is there.
I focus on vibrant, imaginative color and strong design. Each work starts with small
sketches, using large areas of color that are the building blocks of the composition.

Once a design is finalized, a line drawing in charcoal becomes the first step on the
new board. A transparent layer of orange provides the backdrop--a middle value
that peeks through the top layers and gives warmth to the finished painting. I call
the works “paintings” to emphasize that they are created from shapes, not lines,
as a drawing would be."

My 2012 Plein Air/Studio Workshops:

Foradditional information on workshops and classes, please visit http://dennisrhoades.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

LOCATION:
TERRY LUDWIG STUDIO

CLASS FULL

Littleton, Colorado
September 21-22-23

My workshops are designed to introduce painting the landscape through better use of design, color and application to make your own strong personal statements. We are under no obligation to copy what we see, that’s what a camera is designed to do. Concentration will be on the process of interpreting landscape to “fit” your own unique style. Although these are outdoor workshops, much of the discussion will apply equally to studio work and procedures. We’ll work on defining and developing what constitutes a strong pictorial concept and selection of those elements in the landscape which support that end. The ultimate goal is to help you think and create on a higher plane. The small class size is intended to encourage discussions and questions about our profession today.
